About

Courtney Noonan, IBCLC

Hey there! I’m Courtney Noonan, founder of Sierra Nevada Lactation. Born and raised in South Lake Tahoe, CA, I now reside in the Carson Valley with my husband and two daughters.

I am a registered nurse and an international board certified lactation consultant (IBCLC). I entered the mother baby world about 12 years ago as an eager young labor and delivery nurse, excited to help women through the birth and early postpartum period, which included the basics of breastfeeding. What I quickly realized after the birth of my first daughter was that I actually knew very little about breastfeeding! We struggled. It hurt and we both cried A LOT! So I sought the help of a colleague who was a lactation consultant. She taught me the “art” of breastfeeding and helped me navigate through the challenges I faced in those first few weeks, including how to breastfeed a tongue tied baby. At the time, there were very few resources in our area for tongue tie support so I began to seek out my own education, which led me on a path to becoming an IBCLC.

After 10 years of providing lactation services in the hospital setting, I am excited to now be using my knowledge and experience to reach even more families in our area through private practice. Whether you’re expecting your first child or you’re a seasoned pro, my goal is to provide your growing family with evidence based, compassionate, individualized prenatal and postpartum lactation and infant feeding support. I believe in the lifetime health benefits that breastfeeding and feeding breast milk can provide you and your baby, but I also know how challenging learning to breastfeed can be for many families. This is why I offer prenatal education and a variety of postpartum support options, including pumping and bottle feeding assistance. I want you to be confident and successful on this new journey. I am also extremely passionate about maternal mental health. I aim to provide a safe, empathetic, and supportive space for mothers to process the many changes that occur during this new stage of life. I adhere to the IBCLE Code of Professional Conduct for IBCLC’s.
